Our first mission trip to Haiti, March 4th-March 7th, 2012
I opened the door to my grandmother’s house March 2011 to 5 beautiful young girls, even though the house is not fully adequate for the children to live in, but better than they were living before which were deplorable living conditions. The few months before March 2012 were very special and busy getting ready for the orphanage to be open. The previous two months were spent preparing for the children, just like a pregnant woman would be preparing to bring her newborn baby home. Making sure the children had everything they needed, from hair supplies like barrettes to shoes and socks, clothes, sheet, waterproof mattress covers, beds, toothbrush, plates, cups, vitamins and much more, especially a place to call home and loving caregivers.
March 4th 2012 we arrived in Haiti, I spent the night unpacking boxes sent by boat a month earlier, luggage all full with Items for the girls. Monday March 5, I met the 5 beautiful girls for the first time, Nathanael Piere, Vanlancia Lubin, Rosemerlande Justilien , Valdine Louis, Vanessa Rosena Pierre Louis my heart filled with joy and happiness. I fell in love with them like they were my own biological children, they were scared, shy, malnourished, had worms and much more, but happy to be in their new home knowing they didn’t have to worry where their next meal will be coming from. They could not believe they had their very own beds. My biggest concern was their medical condition, especially the ones with their abdomen distended, and found out it was due to malnourish and worms. The Nannies and I got them ready for their first physical; every one of them needed worm medication and vitamins. The next day, Tuesday the girls went to school for the first time. What a busy day that was. The next three months were really hard, every week one of the children needed to seek medical care by a physician. Thank God we got over it, now our girls are healthy
